Modernization of the Fergana oil refinery: a new generation of tanks

The Fergana Oil Refinery is actively modernizing its production facilities, including the construction of new storage tanks for oil and oil products. This will increase the efficiency of the plant, automate the accounting of raw materials, minimize hydrocarbon losses and improve environmental safety.

Since the 1960s, more than 300 tanks have been built at the plant, and more than 325 are currently in operation, many of which are outdated. As part of the modernization, 36 new modern tanks are being built.

One of the main advantages of the new tanks is the use of pontoons – special coatings that are installed inside vertical steel tanks (RVSP). The pontoons are on the surface of the liquid in the tanks and reduce the evaporation of petroleum products. This significantly reduces the loss of hydrocarbons and reduces emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. This technology allows for minimizing fuel losses compared to conventional tanks.

The new tanks are also equipped with modern measuring devices and automated accounting systems, which allows real-time monitoring of the volumes, temperature and condition of the stored product. This innovation ensures high measurement accuracy and improves control over technological processes and inventory management at the plant.

The new tanks will be used to store various types of hydrocarbon raw materials, intermediate and commercial petroleum products. In particular, four tanks with a capacity of 3,000 m³ each are provided for summer and winter grade diesel fuel, and four tanks with a capacity of 10,000 m³ each are provided for storing oil. This will also ensure an uninterrupted supply of high-quality petroleum products of various grades to consumers throughout the year, regardless of the season.

Head of Project Management Department of Fergana Oil Refinery Yuldashali Mirzakarimov noted: "The new tanks will be used to store various types of hydrocarbon raw materials, intermediate and commercial oil products. This fall, 27 reservoirs will be put into operation, and the remaining nine will be put into operation in December
