Fergana Oil Refinery: Record oil refining and achievements of the Danchenko era

Rubric «65 years of Fergana Oil Refinery»

We continue the column “65 years of Fergana Oil Refinery”. Today we will talk about the period 1988-1992, when under the leadership of Yuri Vasilyevich Danchenko the plant achieved record processing figures and introduced new production units, which laid the foundation for the enterprise’s further successes.

From 1988 to 1992, under the leadership of Yuri Danchenko, the Fergana Oil Refinery processed up to 8 million tons of hydrocarbons annually - a record figure that allowed the plant to become the largest producer of petroleum products in Uzbekistan. The FNPZ fully met the country's domestic fuel needs, producing AI-93 gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, fuel oil and oils, playing a key role in the region's energy security.

The period of Danchenko's leadership was marked not only by record processing volumes, but also by significant modernization of production capacities. Thus, in 1987, a petroleum coke calcination unit (PCU) with a design capacity of 140 thousand tons per year was put into operation at the plant. This unit allowed the plant to begin producing calcined coke, which is in demand in the metallurgical and chemical industries.

In 1988, a plant for the production of household and heat-resistant candles with a capacity of 5.4 tons per day was launched, which used paraffin and synthetic wax. This plant expanded the range of products manufactured and became an important step towards diversification of production.

Yuri Vasilyevich, who headed the plant during this period, was a graduate of the Grozny State Oil Technical University named after Academician M.D. Millionshchikov, specializing in "engineer of machines and devices for chemical production." His knowledge in the field of oil refining and experience allowed the plant not only to reach record volumes of oil refining, but also to implement new technological solutions that increased production efficiency.
