Ecological modernization of the Fergana Oil Refinery: a step towards a sustainable future

Fergana Oil Refinery is actively implementing modern technologies to improve the environmental performance of the enterprise. From 2020 to 2024, the plant implemented a set of measures aimed at protecting the environment, reducing emissions of harmful substances , effectively managing water resources and recycling waste.

Emission control

FNPZ reduced emissions to 7 thousand tons in 2023, which is 44% below the permissible environmental standards. This was achieved through targeted upgrades to production facilities and the introduction of dust and gas collection systems (DGC ) , which made it possible to trap 1.5 thousand tons of pollutants. The plant also repaired and replaced more than 19.5 km of pipelines, which improved the operation of process units and reduced the volume of harmful emissions.

Efficient use of water resources

The plant uses a wastewater treatment system with a capacity of 0.7 to 1.8 thousand m³/hour, developed by the Czech company WABAG. In 2021, the network for returning purified water back to production processes was modernized, which reduced the consumption of industrial water. In order to prevent groundwater pollution, 20.2 km of old oil pipelines were dismantled, and the existing lines were brought to the surface.

Waste recycling and implementation of innovative technologies

The plant actively processes industrial waste. In 2023, the new GNOST-05 unit processed 373 tons of oil sludge , and in the first half of 2024, this figure reached 1.5 thousand tons. In total, more than 2.7 thousand tons of waste were processed. The sludge is divided into raw materials for oil refining, water and a thick mixture of mechanical impurities such as soil, sand and crushed stone, which are separated from the oil sludge .

Green initiatives and support for ecology

As part of the Green Belt environmental program, more than 8,000 trees and 14,000 flowers were planted at the plant in 2023. The plants include plum, apricot and almond trees, as well as shrubs and ornamental plants. This not only improves air quality, but also contributes to the improvement of the surrounding area.

Hayatjon Nishonov , head of the environmental protection department at FNPZ, noted: "Environmental safety is an absolute priority for us. We actively invest in modern and environmentally friendly technologies that help reduce the impact on the environment and ensure a stable future for our region. New installations and modernization of production processes allow us to make them energy efficient and minimize waste."

Fergana Oil Refinery does not stop there and continues to improve production processes, demonstrating commitment to environmental standards. The plant actively reduces its impact on the environment and introduces modern technologies aimed at sustainable development. In the near future, it plans to put into operation 36 new tanks for the technological process, equipped with modern pontoons and automatic measuring instruments. These innovations will significantly reduce irreversible losses of hydrocarbons and minimize emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere.
